Hello everyone. Took a little break from writing but I am back!!
So what has happened over the last several weeks. Not very much. I have been swamped with work. Pretty much 60-70 hour weeks. This is why I have not written in a while. The weekends have been reserved for Zach and Linda and taking an hour to write a journal was hard to justify. Things should start to slow down a little bit now so I should start again to write more regularly.
Last weekend Zach, Linda and I headed down to Monte Vista to check out the Sand Hill Cranes. These cranes migrate every year and stop over in Colorado. It was a day trip and a ton of fun. We headed out about noon and arrived around four. I took these pictures at that time (pic1, pic2, pic3). We then went into town for some dinner and to let Zach play around on the slides in Burger King. He had a blast!! Much more fun than watching a bunch of birds! Well we went back out about 6pm hoping there would be more birds to see. We arrived and there were none! We decided to hang out a bit in the hopes that some would show up. About 30 minutes later you could hear cranes and the sky started to fill with them. Thousands of birds flying in. Here are a couple of pictures of some birds flying in. (pic1, pic2, pic3) There were also several species of ducks and geese. Here is photo I grabbed with them flying in. And here is a photo of Linda and Zach after Linda got him calmed down. Just previous to this he took a spill and scraped both knees pretty good. He took it like a trooper and after little cry was back at it. All in all it was a good day trip and worth the time in the car. Linda and I really want Zach to appreciate the outdoors and the wildlife that lives in it. Trips like this where he can be outside and see the cool things that are out there make Linda and I happy.
Rick and I also got a good 1.5 hour bike ride in last weekend as well. The weather was perfect for a ride as it was in the low 70s. We both rode in shorts. Spring is definitely on its way. Almost all the snow we got this year is now gone. In Colorado though it can snow all the way into May so I am not holding my breath that the snow is done. Rick and I are hoping we can get the snowmobiles up into the mountains one more time this year.
Zach is learning to talk and now can put some words together. His very first words together were "Big Truck". He said this in the car on the way to day care. Linda called me at work to let me know!! He now says "big truck yellow" when he sees a yellow truck for instance. Other phrases include "good-bye" and "see you in the morning". The last phrase is still a little mumbled but he is trying! I am still in wonder how fast Zach learns and grows every day. It amazes both Linda and I that he will be two in a few months. Time is now becoming the most important thing.
Until next time....Mike

Hello everyone. A week behind on this journal but better late then never!
Been very busy and have not had much time to write. Zach is doing well. Got a hair cut this week. Linda did the cutting. With his new cut he really is starting to look older. He is really talking now and can say just about any word Linda and I say. Watching what I say is very important now. Zach got a fat lip yesterday in daycare. No big deal but it looks funny. They said he was accidentally knocked over by another kid and with his hands full did a face plant. They said he cried a little but let them put a cold compress on it and then he was back playing. Tough little guy. He is also learning to jump and now runs everywhere. I guess walking got old and was taking to long because now it is run, run, run.
No big adventures over the last week or so. Rick and played racquetball last Saturday for about an hour and half. He won three and I snuck the last one. I think he was letting me win so I would play again. While we played racquetball, the Nissan dealer was giving my truck the 60K mile treatment. Not sure if other people do this but it is expensive. Changed all fluid (coolant, transmission, transfer cases, engine oil), greased all hinges and locks, rotate tires, and inspected everything. The cool thing is that I had a 20% off coupon so I saved a little bit of money. When driving now I tell myself how much better the truck runs so I can justify the expense. Not certain it does run better though.
Sorry for the short one this week but I got to run.
Until next time....Mike
